Kings Story The Reach to be Marketed at Cannes

Park Entertainment is bringing King's The Reach to market for the first time. It will be produced by Grayson Ross and Jodi Hansell for DownEast Village Productions.  The film's budget is between 12 and 14 million.  King has said that The Reach is the story he "would most like to be remembered for after his death".

The Reach follows a 95 year old woman who decides it's finally time to leave her home, Goat Island, and cross the waters to the mainland by walking across the frozen water. Along the way, she comes across the ghosts of those who passed away on the island — many of them familiar faces from her past.

Lots of King movie adaptations coming up in the near future.

The Century's Best Horror Fiction

Cemetery Dance is publishing a huge 2 volume set of horror fiction from some great authors including Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Shirley Jackson, Charles Beaumont, Jack Ketchum and more.  They will begin shipping in late January.  Pricing is $150 for the 2 volume 1st Editions.  For info or to purchase.

The King story is "The Reach".  First published in Yankee magazine in 1981 under the title "Do the Dead Sing" then in Skeleton Crew in 1985.

Stella Flanders, the oldest resident of Goat Island, has just celebrated her 95th birthday. She has never crossed the reach, the body of water that separates the Island from the mainland, in her entire life. She tells her great-grandchildren when they ask, "I never saw any reason to go." Stella comes to the realization that the cancer that she's known she has, and kept to herself, is it its final stages when she starts seeing the deceased residents of Goat Island. Her visions start with her husband inviting her to "come across to the mainland."
